Yultide Update

I hope everyone is having a nice holiday.  As you have probably noticed, the blog recently moved to smithsonguitar.com.  So far, it seems to be a smooth transition.

I have just tonight published an overhaul to the gear section, with several new guitars added and new info and photos added to the ones already listed.  There will be another update to the gear page coming early next year which will cover Johnny's amps.  Other than that, I think it is fairly comprehensive at this point.

I have several more updates coming in the new year including a new interview, a section on Andy's bass gear, and several rare tab books which I haven't posted yet.  I will also try to hunt down all of the remaining dead links and fix them, as soon as I can.

I'd like to thank all my readers, especially everyone that has made contributions to the site.  If anyone has any further suggestions or ideas, please let me know in the comments.

The site is beyond compare, but since you asked.

I would suggest

1. A link to the homepage thats accessible from all pages.

2. A notation on the home page saying when the recently updated was last updated

3. All this smiths marr work seems to me to beg the question guitar wise how has he progressed since the smiths..what directions has he taken...perhaps an expanded section for post smiths work?

4. also influences..maybe a section for influences...'these are the guitarists that johnny first studied...'

5. some of the guitarist on youtube doing smiths songs are fantastic....I bet they could give some good insights into what they see as unique about Marrs playing in an interview format

this site is already something out of my dreams, pls take these suggestions with a grain salt,

thanks and happy new year

Hey uglow, thanks for your comment.

1. I want to make the top banner clickable, but I haven't ever been able to figure that out. It's some kind of weird code due to it changing banners upon reloading. I'll look back into that. If anyone is a Blogger pro and can help with that, please let me know.

2. I have added a recent updates section which is linked in the "about this blog" paragraph on the right. Updates are typically too complicated to sum up in a few words. Blogger has no widget for "recently modified or updated posts", so that's as good as I can do for now. I will try to keep that up to date with all changes I make to various pages.

3. I may do a post-smiths section at some point, but the whole reason I created the site was due to a lack of Smiths related material in guitar mags, etc. I want to be careful not to dilute the focus too much. Also, within this year I will have 95% of all the published tab on the site, so I want to focus more on improving the accuracy of the guitar pro tabs... which is a tall order and will take years. Johnny's later period work has very little tab dedicated to it, and other sites do a fairly good job of cataloging that. Also, I post every guitar magazine interview I can of Johnny, throughout his whole career, so in some ways his post Smiths career is covered there.

4. I have an influences section that I have been working on for about a year, I will definitely organize that and post it when I can.

5. Believe it or not, I have tried to interview some of the outstanding guitarists that do Smiths covers. But many don't want to make a big deal about their covers, and some have their own music to promote. Usually their advice and methods are the same: study the records and live shows, and try to get an understanding of what's going on.

Also I want to thank you uglow for all your help with hosting, I really appreciate it!!

Does anyone know if the Off the record songbook is any good? And roughly what they sell for? Seen one on ebay but no idea if it's any good or overpriced
